Police checking car speeds in Edinburgh at the first in a series of pilot 20mph ‘Roadside Education’ events, held in partnership with Police Scotland, aiming to raise awareness of the consequences of breaking 20mph speed limits. Speeding drivers will be stopped by Police Officers and offered a short driver education session in a Police Command Unit. This will involve Edinburgh Council Transport Officers, who will remind drivers of their speed, advising of the potential consequences of their actions and the impact this can have on the severity of a collision. Drivers will then be shown a short video featuring Edinburgh school children who asked the Council to help them reduce speeds around their school. Similar initiatives have previously been carried out in Liverpool and Birmingham
